Housing association in Düsseldorf

  • Building constructed at the beginning of the 1990s
  • Location: Düsseldorf-Gerresheim
  • Solar thermal system supplementing an existing gas heating system
  • Collector area: 45 m²
  • Came into operation: January 2010

10 families in all are provided with solar thermal heating. The technical concept is similar to that used in an apartment building. The residential group actually consists of the housing association 'Grashüpfer', comprising 2 rows of 5 terraced houses, and the solar installation is located on the southern row of houses.

12 evacuated vacuum tube collectors make full use of the pitched roof and together form an XL System with an area of 45 m². The annual yield of around 20,000 kWh from the installation not only improves the living conditions and reduces the household bills for the 10 families, but has also increased the lifetime of the 10-year-old gas heating system. Now it can be turned off every summer.

This innovative solar thermal system was built by the firm Steimann Solar- und Heiztechnik GmbH, Düsseldorf.
